hey guys i just replaced my original 2x1gb sticks with 2x2gb and things didn't go so well, i have lost my bookmark bar in firefox and safari wont close without being force quit now, does anyone know how to fix this? and i have only used these programs so far, hopefully there isn't anymore problems to come.

These problems are a bit strange. Try running Apple's hardware test by restarting your computer while holding the D key with the OS X DVD inserted. Check if it is indeed faulty RAM causing these issues.

hmmm weird after a few restarts it all went back to normal??
anyway all good, although now that i think of it my finder has always had problems, it continually closes itself when i right click files? anyone else getting this? -
-
yeah its really annoying, after about 2/3 right clicks in a finder screen it will close it and give no report. also how do i do a hard disk check and preference repair?
cheers -
- Open Disk Utility (spotlight it)
- Select your hard disk
- Click on the "Verify Disk" button - this should pass with a green. Be patient as there will be no progress bar and your system will be completely unusable during that time. I always find it a bit unsettling when that happens, but... wait. Depending on how much data you have, it can take 10 minutes.
- If that doesn't pass with a green, start from your DVD (restart computer, hold down the "C" key until you see the startup screen), then run Disk Utility again, and this time click the "Repair Disk" button instead of verify. You can't repair a live startup disk, so you have to start from CD for this.
- Once Verify passes (very likely), click the "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility. Likely, problems will be found and fixed. -
i had already tried verify my disk, and it passed with green, should i still bother with the other stuff seeing as it passed with green?

These problems do sound very strange.
I never had them because I did a nice and clean Leopard install after I upgraded to 4GB... -
no the problem with finder closing itself i have had for a very long time. the other issues were just weird one offs, i have even tried calling apple about it before but they were of no use.
