I hope people won't start flaming now. ;)

I need Windows XP or Vista for my work but i want a Macbook Pro and Leopard for private stuff. Currently that's not a problem, but what IF(!) Microsoft should release Windows 7 already as soon as 2009 or 2010? What if? Could this 64bit-only Windows be installed on a current Macbook Pro?

you should be fine, Im sure there'd be an update, and MBP already runs 64 bit OS' (Leopard for ex.)

Nobody has Windows 7 yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't be supported under Boot Camp.

yeah- you can already run 64 bit operating systems on the macbook pro, because the macbook pro has a 64 bit processor. The only issue right now is driver support, which improves with time.

don't see why you are at risk for flame.

Unofficially you can run Vista/XP 64 under bootcamp. But the drives... well, there are no supported drivers yet. I assume that as time rolls on, we will see 64 bit drivers... especially if W7 is 64 bit only.

But don't assume this means you cant use all your hardware under 64 bit Vista. Instead of the bootcamp drivers, you just have to let Vista find the drivers itself.

There are people who got Vista 64-bit to run nicely on the MacBook Pro. In fact, one NBR user posted a thread on setting it up. I'll edit this post when I find that thread. Be right back... :p

    Edit: Here it is: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=149395

    Enjoy!

Actually, its proper to assume you cannot use all your hardware. The assumption may be proven wrong eventually, but until 3rd party track pad drivers start popping up, it is proper :p

Things like video drivers are there, wehre you can get from nvidia... but still, much less troublesome to run the 32-bit versions for now.
