..and tell me if you occasionally heard a very soft click.

I heard a very soft click maybe once every 20-30 seconds or so.

I'm running the 160gb 5400 rpm stock hard drive on the late 2009 uMBP.

Not sure if this is normal or not so if you fellow NBRers of the Mac subforum could help me out, it be much appreciated. :D

do not sweat it man. i hear it every once in a while. all hard drives make that clicking noise. when you hear it you are probably writing something to it or the hard drive is reading something. its perfectly normal!

Thats perfectly normal with modern laptop harddrive, as they now park the harddrive head when it is not in use as a mechanism to prevent harddrive damage

Indeed - OS X has pretty aggressive power management for HDD and parks the heads quite a bit. The volume level is usually only heard in a quiet setting, and is normal.
