    1. Yes, the 84 watt AC adapter can step down to lower levels for the MBA and smaller MBP's.

    2. Turn the Mac off. Hold the Option key down and turn it back on. Boot from the Recovery HD and you will be fine. Any Mac running OS X Lion will have this option as Apple has migrated to disc-less services. From there, you can use the disk utility to reformat the hard drive, recover from a Time Machine backup, or re-install Lion. Keep in mind that your Mac will need to be connected to the internet if you reformat the hard drive and re-install Lion as it will have to download the Lion installation files all over again.

What about using a white MacBook's charger for a 15in MBP?

The white 13" Macbook uses a 60 watt adapter, and the 15 uses an 85 watt.

It would work as long as the MBP 15's battery is full and you only surf the web. Once you start gaming or charging the batter while surfing, it'll start drawing to much power.

Which could also cause the MacBook's AC adapter to overheat. Either way, it is not a good idea to try to power a Mac with an underpowered AC adapter although it is safe to go the other way.
