One of the things I wish Apple offered was accident insurance as PC notebook makers do. Apple claims you home owner's insurance covers it. I have my doubts and in any event would not want to use it for that. Claims have a way of increasing premiums.

Mystudents lug their Macs all over the place, seemingly without complaint, so maybe I am worrying about nothing.

Still, if anyone has any tips for traveling, especially good cases, etc., I would be happy to hear them. I should be buying my MBP in a few weeks.

I have a Brenthaven Edge case, which has more than an inch padding on all sides. Does make the overall MB/MBP package quite a bit bigger to carry around, but it will definitly keep your laptop very safe if you hit it or drop it or something.

I know home insurance has worked for some, I haven't heard of anyone for which it didn't - it's just usually a rather high premium (but also usually worth it).

I have no idea how that works in other countries though, I can only speak for Sweden really.

But anyway, the best way is of course not to damage it at all - and Brenthaven do make some good protectors, as Budding said.

There are several protective cases in all types that may interest you. There are hardshell cases like those from Speck or Techshell. You could also go with a sleeve, I have and like both the Crumpler School Hymn and iSkin SOHO. You can also get a well padded notebook bag. In fact you can use all three at once depending on how paranoid you wanna be.

However, while those cases will help the best thing is to just try to be careful. Keep liquids away, and try not to drop it. Honestly, I have never had any computer severely damaged from an accident, knock on wood.
