Its hard to say whether it comes true this time. I mean, its been expected since the 12-inch Powerbook was discontinued :p...its like the iPhone...it was rumoured for years and didn't arrive until last January.

If you need it now, get it now. However, if you can wait, always wait; even if its not the ultraportable MBP, the MacBook and MBP are bound to get some sort of update, whether that's hardware or maybe even design; the MBP really needs a redesign. Not that its bad, but its an old design. I mean, since the aluminum Powerbook G4 days!

Rumour has it that Apple might have removed the optical drive on the rumoured ultraportable MBPs. If that is true, then it is certainly a disappointment (for me at least).

Do not forget that these rumours are all regarding products that might come out in January 2008, a month or two from now. Although Macs are currently not at a best-value-for-money point, the Macbook was just updated, and most likely won't be updated again until 2008.

The wait ends when you make your purchase.

I waited for SR MBPs before I bought my MBP. However, I didn't notice much improvements with the LED screen. (nor did Apple advertise the LED LCDs!)

The LED LCDs are definitely a little bit brighter, but this might not worth the wait.

The metal case is definitely a nice improvement though. I hate plastic cases because they look cheap.

I was reading over at macrumors.com and wanted to post something there, but my registration didn't come through yet. Their article said significantly thinner than the MBP and lighter. Removed optical drive, but that isn't enough. I'm wondering if they removed the keyboard. Not to make it a tablet, but to replace it with a configurable 'touch' keyboard. Not tablet like, but a multitouch screen displaying the keyboard 'layout'. This would eliminate quite a bit of thickness from the computer. Only way I can see to make a folding 0.5" thick 13" screen notebook that wouldn't get destroyed the moment you touch it.

EDIT: Personally, I don't see the point in a laptop with a touch 'screen' that you can't 'type' on. Makes no sense. Leads me to believe the screen and the 'keyboard' have to be separate. Would still have the traditional folding design, would be thinner, and reconfigurable for different situations. It needs a dedicated keyboard and screen.

Well, I think they're trying to do the dual product line they had with the 12" Powerbook and the iBook. Same need, but different approaches/price points.
