My worst nightmare happened today….every laptop’s top predator launched an offensive against my macbook!

Yes, I spilled (a little bit) of coffee on my macbook ☹

Ok, it wasn’t a catastrophic, Noah’s ark type of flooding, but more like a little rain shower, with some liquid splashed on the keyboard, screen, and around the edges of the laptop case.

After that, I took out the battery, and cleaned the keyboard, screen and the case with a cleaning towel.

Luckily, at least so far, everything still works fine.

Should I be worried though? Such as open the case with a screw, or take it to the apple store (I do have apple care but I don’t know if they cover this). Is macbook going to explode on me?

    Thanks for your help :)

If it works fine, then you'll be alright. Depending on what you consider a litte "rain shower", you could be safe and just not use the notebook for a few days and place a fan near it. This will let the notebook dry naturally, and ensure that all components are completely dry.

I guess you could say one long term side effect would be the scent of coffee with continued use of the laptop.. :p good luck!

luckily my sweater and jean took most of the damage ;)

so i should not use it for a few days? should i open the case and see if there's any liquid? would that void my apple care warranty?

Don't open it for now. Let it set for at least I'd say 3 days, then try to turn it on.

AppleCare doesn't cover accidental damage, unfortunately. And yes, taking apart the MacBook voids your warranty.

    Hope this helps :).
