I everybody, i'd like to know at what speed you're running your fan to reduce the heat ?
right now, i'm using smc fan control and my fan is running at 3500 but it is still hot around 50 and sometimes 57-60. :(
What is the speed limit for the fan ? (while being safe for the macbook ?)

Those are supposed to be normal temps for macbooks. While increasing the fan speed probably won't harm, it will become quite loud and drain batteries quicker.

SMC FanControl won't allow the fan to run higher than 6k rpm, IIRC. SMC Fan Control is smart enough not to let you lower the fan too much, so it probably won't let you run it too high as well. To be on the sure side, fire some apps that make the 2 cores work at full load (yes>dev/null in two terminal windows does fine) and see at what speed the fans run then.

open two terminal windows, in each of them type:
    yes>dev/null

    then press enter.
this just run the program yes (which simply prints "yes" as fast as it can), and since you're running it twice it will use both cores.
SMC FanControl should show the current speed at the left-hand panel.
My Macbook (CD 1,83GHz) idles at about 53C, with the fans at 1500rpm.

50 doesn't really seem hot at all for a notebook processor, it may seem hot but it is a metal case, so you have to make allowances.

i have never had a notebook before and the macbook is my first so, i don't know, whats the average temperature ?

    My bad, I forgot the trailing "/" : yes>/dev/null
You could just type yes as well, it will just print a bunch of yes to the terminal screen. Press CTRL+C or close the Terminal window when done.
My Macbook reaches 83C when under full load for extended periods. Macbooks and MBPs do get hotter than most comparable notebooks, it is a tradeoff for being very quiet. While I can feel it warm when it is on my lap, it is not uncomfortably hot, but it can become if used for a long time. Get something rigid between the Macbook and your legs, it will also make sure you don't block the exhaust vents.

mm, i know another reason why my macbook was hot, it's because the fan don't start when i turn it on even though i have smc fan control.
DOES ANYONE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ?
is there a way to solve this ?

Are you sure of that? does SMC fan control shows 0 rpm? Macbook fans at low speed are very quiet, you may not be able to listen to them.
Have you done the SMC firmware update?

    oh sorry, when i said "don't start" i meant that it don't start at the speed specified in smc fan control ;
the fan starts at 1500 and the application shows 3500 for the speed and i've ticked the box "auto setting at launching" (i'm not sure this is the exact translation in english because i'm french...)
the fan goes to 3500 when i launch the app , isn't it supposed to automatically start when i logg in ?
