1.how is gaming on them with 8800/2600?
    -relative
-overall, should be more than enough for fairly recent games

    2.does it get hot?
    -no, also, pretty dead quiet

    3.how is the screen?
-best screen available anywhere, actual Glass Panel over screen.

4.is there any way to use it as monitor(with some external staff)?
-probably, but is just silly, use it as a computer.

5.will it be updated in near future?
-of course, computers will always be updated in the near future.

    h@h,thats it!any input appreciated! :)

I concur with Circa, as far as heat/noise/screen. I dont use mine for gaming at all, so I've got no input on that

1.how is gaming on them with 8800/2600? Decent, but not spectacular. # of games is limitted.

2.does it get hot? surprisingly, no.

3.how is the screen? get the 24 in., it's superb

4.is there any way to use it as monitor(with some external staff)? haven't tried it, but why?

5.will it be updated in near future? I'm hoping for a better GPU, too! though the 8800GS is quite adequate. HDMI, eSATA & Blu Ray option would be icing on the cake!

The only way to use the iMac screen as a monitor is to use an external TV Tuner. An iMac is more similar to a laptop in this respect - there is no video-in port like a standard monitor.

As far as the screen goes, definitely get the 24" over the 20". From what I've read, the 20" screen "sucks" compared to the 24".

Now, that's just what I've read. I'm currently using a 20", and the screen seems rather amazing to me.

The screen in the 24" iMac is an S-IPS panel, which offers better viewing angles among other benefits when compared to the TN display in the 20" iMac. Although both screens will appear excellent if you sit directly in front of it.

If you are buying one get the 24" over the 20". Also try to ensure you can see the exact unit you are buying set up in the store before you buy it. The amount of horror stories about faulty screens on iMacs is simply becoming too much to ignore. Some users have had to have theirs replaced 4-5 times before they get a non-faulty unit. Its only a stunning screen if its not faulty. Apple's increased popularity has led to a drop in quality control. I'm gonna get one myself, hopefully very soon, but not without checking it over first with a magnifying glass. Not to detract from this forum but this is a notebook forum so you might want to have a long read of the desktop section over at macrumors to query a lot of iMac owners experiences, both good and bad.
