i got the apple macbook! yah, it was a lot and yah, i didn't NEED all its features but i just love it already. sooo fast and so sleek. more soon but just wanted to thank everyone for all their help! you are the best!
I promise to repay the favor however i can.
oh and dumb question #1? How the heck do i transfer all the files on my ipod (configured for windows now) to mac! oooh maybe i can send myself the tune jack files somehow... confusing...
i just want to stay home and play with my macbook all day! have been online since 9 and the ads are totally true - everything worked "outta the box" it's just that there's so much to play with... having trouble stopping!

lol, congrats and glad you're happy with the MacBook. I'll confess I don't own an iPod and can't help you with that question.

However, doing a quick search on Google i found this http://www.ilinkpod.com/ I'm just not sure if it will work with an iPod thats Windows formated, I would think it would?
Just understand any attempt to pull music off an iPod could render all your files useless on the iPod, and you would have to redo putting all your music back onto it. Also iPods can only work with one library, meaning you can't just plug it into any iTunes library.
I'm glad your enjoying your Macbook, yes indeed its somewhat pricey, but isn't it worth it? If you only got 512MB ram right now, it's WORTH upgrading it, trust me. Right now I have 2GB and this thing SCREAMS faster than it did with 512MB ram. If you live in the states check out www.newegg.com for some memory.
Anyways check out the link I gave you and do some search on google, remember Google is your friend.
Remember if you really wanna get your hands dirty and learn more about OS X, get 'Mac OS X Tiger edition; The Missing Manual' by David pogue, it's an EXCELLENT book to learn about OS X even if OS X is easy to learn, he talks about many of the hidden things as well.
Enjoy that new Macbook, I know you'll love it as much as I love mine. -
If you mean pulling songs off your iPod I have a simple way that should work. Find a program for Windows that will extract them, or if they are already all on your PC then that will work. Either way, get all of your songs on the PC. Format your iPod, again make sure all your songs are on the PC so they don't get deleted. Then go into iTunes, PC still and configure your iPod to use disc mode. Now drag all you music files onto the iPod. Take it to the Mac, plug it in and drag them on to the Mac hard drive you should be good to go. Since a Windows iPod is formatted in FAT32 OS X can read it. Same way with regular files btw. Once plugged in, if you have disc mode enabled it should show up as a drive on the desktop in OS X.

i once had this problem with my skimpy favorite tracks in the nano... but i solved that one doing the steps cashmonee said... -
congrats . -
please let us know if you're having any of the "really hot" symtoms. I'd like to know this because I'm getting near my purchase date and want to feel confident that the macbook I buy is going to be "bug free." On the other hand congrats!

Take some time to read through all the threads here on NBR under Apple forum, many questions we see are repeats, if you use search and can't find anything (use Advanced search btw) than do a thread. We are all here to help you.
I currently own a Macbook and it's considered my best notebook purchase to date. Remember everything new has a break-in period, such as New cars, anyways the same applies to computers, in computer jargon we call it 'Burn-in' usually running a computer normally for a week is enough, I can say myself after having my Macbook for a while now, it runs considerably cooler than since I first got it. -
an update: (i've been busy playing with my new macbook)
First off, thanks again, for all the tips on ipod conversion... i'm going to try it and let you know how it works.
Secondly, still loving it. A bit overwhelmed by all there is to do but that's hardly a complaint.
Because i'm a non-techie, my perspective might be good for those of you looking out there.... (who are also non-techies)
as for the heat issue: it gets warm, yes, but honestly I burned myself with my dell sitting on my lap. i mean i still have a mark. the apple hasn't been anything like that. and like others have said (and I used to do with dell), i just put a pillow or "lapdesk" between it and me and i seem to be fine.
I don't know ALL my specs but I got:
the 1.83 core duo (white)
60 gb
1 gb RAM
"regular" CD burner/reader, and dvd player
13.3"
os x tiger
I haven't even really started with the windows "side" yet. I do want to play with boot camp, just to see if nothing else.
Oh, one thing I had been particularly concerned about was connecting to my work (u.s. government agency). I actually took my secure id to the applestore to test it and it looked like it wasn't working. my work IT staff said "eh, just get the dell" but i still wanted to try. chatted with the mac folks who suggested it was probably laziness and to test it with firefox. well whaddya know? firefox for mac worked perfectly! I also have downloaded neooffice and in some ways like it better than the (trial of) ms office for mac. yes, it's still in development but... honestly, most of what i do is pretty simple.
through peer pressure maybe i will end up getting ms word at some point.
oh, i also sprung for the free (with rebate)canon photo printer,
.mac
and applecare (yes, $219 is way more than the suggested 25% of price to pay for a warranty, but ... i just decided i'd kick myself if it needed something down the road so... we'll see i guess.
sorry so rambly, just wanted to say thanks again and hope to return the favor when i'm not such a newbie. -
Currently there is only Pages (words counterpart) and Keynote (Powerpoints Counterpart) there is rumor going that Apples next version will contain Charts (Excels counterpart). iWorks doesn't have that intimidating user interface. You can also easily export to many other formats, I recently did a short overview here in this Apple forum on NBR, take a quick look at that. Remember you get a 30 day trial of it, it's already installed in your Applications Folder.
so i did it
