I had my laptop (PowerBook G4 15") on a couch (around early june) and walked away from it and it fell. The little latch broke (I'm using velcro straps to keep it shut now ... NOT attractive) but there weren't any other problems with it until recently where it goes to sleep while I have it plugged in and I'm actually doing something that should keep it awake. I'm worried about what's going on in the computer but DON'T want to take it in and spend a LOT of money to have it checked out and fixed (which is why I haven't gotten the latch repaired ... they gave me and estimate of $250 - $600)
    Any advice out there?

What little latch are you talking about specifically here?

Quite honestly for such a thing, anything over 100 dollars is a ripoff.

Its the latch at the top center of the screen. where it hooks to the bottom and also affects triggering the computer to go to sleep. basically, if the screen is pushed close, it doesnt latch and also doesnt go to sleep unless you put pressure on the lid to sit flush against the base. In otherwords, if the latch isnt holding it tightly closed, it doesnt "sit" tightly closed enough to trigger sleep mode or it hits it for a second when you close it but then when you let go, it comes up just a hair and then comes out of sleep even though its closed..............

    ha ha make sense???

$150 to fix the latch AND sleeping problem (I guess they're related aren't they)... or just the latch? And how long would that take?

Hey FC, did you happen to live here in LA a couple years back? just curious cause I knew a good guy that wanted to move to to Colorado to open a computer store (repair) and I either met him here or through Ebay. I lately have not been able to reach him so I assumed he did just that. So what do you think the time frame would be for the repair? (including shipping of course)
