    2 questions about skype. 1- can i use it to sign onto my aim screen-name. 2- how can i text through it and does that cost anything (stupid question, right)

    I don't think it will do AIM. You can text by clicking on the text box. Although, there really is not a whole lot of reason for it since Skype's main objective is video and audio. And for computer to computer audio, video, and text it is free as in beer. If you want to call a normal landline there is a charge, usually significantly cheaper than the phone company charges. For instance, for my wife to call Portugal from the US runs us 2.1 cents per minute. You can also get a Skype In number that allows landlines to call your computer for a flat charge.

    1. No, you can't use your AIM account. Only Skype accounts.

    2. Yes, you can IM in Skype with the other Skype user. Skype to Skype users will not cost you anything, but Skype to land line or land line to Skype will cost you money. As cashmonee said, it is cheaper than subscribing to a phone company. The only downside is that you have to keep your computer on whenever you want to receive a phone call. Last year they were doing a promotion where anyone could call to a land line for free for about a month. Not sure about this year though...

    Skype is amazing, i used it for international calls this summer for a fraction of what it costs normally.
