i just sold off my pro for a number of reasons.

    1) did not like the metal look.
    2) wanted somthing smaller
    3) need extra cash to get a gift for somone
    4) did not need the power
    5) ran hot

the question is should i buy a blackbook? i really like the visual design and size. however im pissed off they cost so much. why are people on craigslist asking so much money? i also am dissapointed they dont include a black remote or remote at all?. i see some of the older versions on amazon and macmall for around 1100. however i dont mind buying used. do you guys think i can find one for around 800?

IMHO the black ones are over-priced for what you get. They cost almost as much as a Pro. You can find a used white one for around $800 but probably not black. A lot of people on Craigslist are crazy with their prices, but that's another story.

I highly doubt you'll find a used Blackbook for ~$800... a Whitebook perhaps, but definitely not a black one.

Black seems to be stupid taxed $150 for the colour, the white middle one can be made the same config for $50.

I opted for the white, colour made no difference to me, i don't look at it when it's closed and when it's open I only look at the screen, the screen's identical so who cares what colour the rest is, it's just a status symbol to say "hey look at me, i paid an extra $150 just to have black".

Yeah, Apple's parts (the power cord, the Remote) is white so doesn't match the BlackBook. I'm not sure, but I don't think the new Macs even come with a Remote anymore.

Anyway, its likely that there will be a redesign of the MacBooks and MacBook Pros in the next few updates, so keep your eyes open!

You would be correct on this - on the new revision of the macbooks, the remote is not included for free.

Just one answer to many of your questions...

Craigslist has gained a ton of worthless people, and when they try to sell something they ask more than it's worth because they don't have to pay for the ad, so if it doesn't sell, they aren't out any money.

What drives me nuts though, is I've seen crap on there for more than you can buy it for new.

Then again, you get the other side of the craigslist crowd.. the buyers. You get a dozen cheap people emailing or calling you with some off-the-wall lowball offer for every person that responds with real questions.

craigslist was so cool a year or two ago. no its scammers and people who send messeges saying

"i trade youz a wii with 4 gamez for your m15x"

its so hard to resist cursing them. people really think im stupid (engough :D )
to accept that offer? also i totally agree i see someone selling a plain old macbook for 2000. what do they think justifys the price? they say it has preinstalled software comic life, aperture, etc (probally all pirated lol) craigslist and ebay today just dont seem like a viable place to conduct SERIOUS business.

You should get a white one. A black colored Macbook will have both the black paint premium and the Mac premium.

Ah, thanks for the confirmation. Not that I'm particularly surprised though, I don't find the Apple Remote that useful, but I guess for people always doing presentations and such that'd be great.

It's both handy, and a potential curse, for giving presentations.

Handy: You have a little remote that you can palm, and it means you can actually, you know, walk around and present rather than hovering behind a computer/carrying a wireless mouse around when you walk.

Potential curse: When you're giving a presentation and accidentally get out of range and have to get back in range, quickly, or risk loosing your pace in the presentation (I've seen it happen a lot *grin*)

I personally have a Black Macbook. I personally love both Macbooks, however, personally, I was choosing between the Macbook Pro and the Black Macbook. Between the two, everyone usually says "MBP FTW!", however, don't particularly love aluminum. Yes, the MBP is a more 'powerful' machine, but when it came down to it, I don't need those specs for what I do (student & photoshop), and I didn't particularly like the aluminum. So it was the Black Macbook for me.

I say it really depends on you in the end. If you're willing to spend the extra money on the Black Macbook, and you don't mind having the black one, then the Black one it is! Make sure you also pay a visit to a store to compare the two - also in glossy coating & matte. :)

What's wrong with Aluminum? The most expensive PC cases that are considered the cream of the crop from companies like Lian-Li and Silverstone are all Aluminum. I don't care much for carbon fiber chassis or the plastic chassis used for a MacBook. Aluminum adds more of a high quality look to a laptop because you rarely see it used for a cheap laptop or a cheap case.

I have a white MacBook for a year and it looks quite dirty at this point. I am talking about non-removable dirt off cause. I am wondering if black MacBook would look cleaner at this age. May be it would worth couple hundreds of dollars to have a newer-looking notebook after a year.
