I have a Macbook pro a1229 (santa rosa) 2.4 gig, 160 gig H.D. with a hi-res(1900x1200) wuxga matte screen that is broken. I searched your Apple & Mac forum and did not see this issue addressed. I have removed the screen and it is a LG (Phillips) lp171wu1 tl b1. I did read in a few of your forum posts that a lp171wu1 tl a2 OR a lp171wu3 tl a2 are much better screens ,and that they have protrusions that need to be removed to fit it in upper cover lcd housing. It did not explain this procedure completely and the two recommended have protrusions that would need to be removed to fit in my top cover. To complicate things I read omigli.com, xeeno.com and ifixit.com forums of some one attempting to replace their lp171wu1 tl b1 with a lp171wu1 tl a2 and a lp171wu1 tl a4 as well as a lp171wu3 tl a4 with no success. This was posted some time ago but upon trying to follow up on this info I found no further updates on it .
I would like to get the better lcd. It is $50 or so cheaper . I would really appreciate some input on this. I also read that is is not possible to upgrade a screen from a lower res to a higher one , though that is not an issue here since all the recommended screens (and my broken one) are hi-res wuxga (1900x1200) lcds'. Any advice would be welcome. I am mirroring my MBP to a 21' (2048x1536) CRT monster. Nice picture but it takes up half the desk. Thanks !
