Just like the title says, I don't like the reflection. Each time the screen goes black, I see myself in it.
The funny thing is, the sales guy at mac store in Buffalo asked me which screen I want and said that macbook comes with option as well. Soo he gave the the matt (not).
I'm thinking of getting MBP (matt screen). Will they make me pay 10%restocking fee? would like to know how you guys find you glossy/ matt screens? is macbook and macbook pro glossy screens same?
    thanks.

I'm using a glossy screen but I really don't see myself in the reflection all that much. I couldn't imagine that it's THAT different but I mean the screens are not exactly the same. Just look at the glossies comared to the mattes in the store and you'll be fine.

I'm pretty sure if you tell them that the salesperson sold you a "matte" macbook, they'll give you a refund. That's really unfair and ridiculous.

    cheers

Matte all the way :) I compared in the store + found matte much more desirable. Went out of my way to get a matte MBP.

Well, I don't mind the reflection, but if it bothers you then return it. Tell the Apple Store the employee tried to sell you a "matte" MacBook and you're not happy with it. They'll most likely give you a full refund/let you do an exchange.

I got the matte screen and only released the difference when I saw my brothers hp dv9000. I'm happy with my choice. Good luck taking it back. You should be able to get away with exchanging it.

You see yourself in the screen? I have two windows near me, one right next to me..I don't see my reflection in the glossy screen. Sometimes I can see the bookshelve behind me, but it's minor even with both windows open on a sunny day. I personally find the images on the glossy screen more vivid than matte.

I see myself when screen is black/ during dvd play (night seen etc.), not while browzing or during reg. time. I do see at some piont the light (depends how positioned), this is not the biggest deal, but it still bothers me a little. I'll go for the MBP, either right away or oct.

Call me crazy but I love the look of the glossy screens. Well, at least the ones I've used. My sister got a Dell with a glossy screen a while ago and even though I know there is no difference between the actual innards of the screens, the glossy appears to have better contrast. Blacks look blacker and so forth. I suppose in direct sunlight it's probably not the greatest looking thing ever, but I mean how often am I going to be using my laptop in DIRECT sunlight? Not much. My computer table faces the window so the light comes in at the back of the monitors.

Only thing I'm worried about is apparently scratches show up a lot more on a glossy screen. Guess I'll just have to be careful.

I love glossy screens as well. The colours are much more vibrant on the glossy screen. It does get reflective but when you turn the screen to full brightness you don't really notice a reflection. Unless you're directly in the sun or under a strong light.

I was really skeptical of glossy screens until I actually owned one. Now, I can't imagine going back to matte. Colors have a "pop" on a gloss screen that just isn't there on a matte finish.

I think the glare issues are a little over blown.

I bought a keyboard cover to protect the screen from the oils your fingers leave on the keyboard. On Matte screens, if you don't clean them often and have people touch your screen (hey when the LCD is not mine I don't care) they can get stained beyond repair. However I don't know with a glossy screen, people get their fingers cut off if they touch it.

I really have a love/hate relationship with the glossy vs. matte threads.

I love them, hoping to find a real answer as to which I should buy.
I hate them finding I am as confused as ever because they are both great for different reasons.

I do notice that Apple totally pushes the glossy option. They don't say much about matte.

I really need to go to the Apple store and see for myself.

With how Apple handles options, I'm surprised that they haven't done away with matte screens altogether.

and by going to the apple store you'll still be confused :D , driving in the van with darken windows at day time it is almost imposable to watch a movie. My brother in law has IMB with mat. screen and it is very enjoyble. I need notebook for general use and be some what protable, but little things like that are anoying.

So you can't see anything in the car with a glossy screen, but the matte was good for that?

    2 points for matte.

i love my glossy screen, it is more saturated, and has darker blacks and whiter whites if compared to the matte screen. I have been using it for about 2 years now, and reflection is never an issue to me, i hardly notice it even my workspace backs onto the outside windows. It could be a problem using outdoor, under the sun, but hey, i rarely do that.

If color management and screen sharing are important to you, matte screen would be a better choice, as on the glossy screen, colors and brightness will shift a bit even only adjusting your distance from the screen.

My MBP , soon to be here will be glossy while my dell 2405 24" lcd is matte. The reason I chose glossy was for watching movies/anime/tv-series etc. TV/DVDs look better on it. For programming I like a matte more since it's non reflective.

If you are trying to choose between glossy or /matte here is what is my 2-cents.

    Glossy Pros:
-Video and Pictures look way better, vibrant.

    Glossy Cons:
-Dust on your screen becomes more apparent, so I would keep a cleaning cloth handy.
-Outdoor viewing is not that great, but seriously how much will you use it outdoors in direct sunglight? Even matte screens suffer from this unless they are really bright.

    Matte Pros:
-Non reflective. Doesn't show dust/fingerprints as much.

    Cons:
-It's not glossy , meaning the colors look flatter and don't seem to jump out.

Sure if you are picky you are going to see yourself in a glossy screen when its black. You will get used to it and you will tune it out. It's not that bad really.

I saw a MacBookPro matte screen the other day. It was VERY nice. Usually my choosing a glossy screen is because the matte screen on a laptop sucks.

Either way I think you will be happy and shouldn't stress the decision. If you do love to watch DVDs go with the glossy.

Before buying my Matte MBP 2 weeks ago - i went to the store.
Compared glossy with matte. Colors were almost the same. Would not say that in new screens you will be able to say that glossy has darker blacks or whiter whites...
But all glossy screens had reflections from the top lightning and from the store entrace. So matte looked 10 times better without any doubt.
MBP matte screens are way better than any other HP/Lenovo matte screens. Color wise you could only compare to glossy screens of other manufacturers.
    Brightness is very good too.

It's kind of like Coke vs. Pepsi. No matter how convinced someone is that Coke is better, you may prefer Pepsi. No amount of opinions can help you with this one.

Exactly. It's the only way to really know.

I love the screen on my Glossy MBP (w/ LED backlighting). IMO, the LED backlighting is powerful enough to shine through all but the brightest glare. I haven't even noticed glare since I got it. But, I have noticed how much sharper text and fine images appear over what I saw in an apple store. Of course it is opinion, but do know that you cannot compare the glossy screen of a MBP to that of an HP or Toshiba. Those screens are about 10x glossier than Apple's. At least the glossy coating is MUCH thicker. Glare is definitely more noticeable on those...
