Like all 2008 MacBook Pros, my DVD burner does not work.

Can I take it out and somehow work a hard drive in that same space?

What is really annoying is that I used an external DVD burner most of the time, specifically to protect the built-in DVD burner, so when I went to resell it... I would not have to list "perfect except the DVD burner does not work." Argh.

It's like a Toyota gas pedal up in here.

What are you on about? There's nothing wrong with the DVD burners except in a few cases. Just use it!

It's broken and just kicks out all discs.

    I've heard they fail a lot. I guess I went a little overboard. :D

But now that that laptop is only worth, say $800, I don't want to blow $100 getting a replacement, and anyone who wants to buy it from me is going to go straight to lowball, since the Superdrive is broken.

Rather then replace the Superdrive, I'd rather stuff a second hard drive in that space.

    hmm...

a great place to hide weed, but I'm having a slot A won't fit into slot B and there is no slot C?

lol, ie the typical SATA connector + power is not what I'm looking at here...

So, there is one connector that did everything for the Superdrive...

assuming the Superdrive is a SATA device, it looks like I just need a different connector on my connector, so I can connect?

BTW, I'd put a platter drive over here in the Superdrive bay, and put the SSD in the main drive bracket...

Had the problem as well but a simple CD cleaner resolved the issue.

DVDs are old news anyway. Slap a blue ray drive in there... then figure out how to make it work with the OS.

I don't want any optical in there.

A second hard drive would have ruled though, since I could use the SSD as the OS drive and still have big storage available.

I little disappointed to find out that a 2008 LED MBP is sporting an IDE DVD burner though. Weak.

Not really that weak. It doesn't need SATA. But annoying for those of you who want to swap it out, that's for sure.

    So, weak?..

[EDIT] plus IDE uses more CPU, so, my premium product has a short cut inside it that reduces performance and hinders me when I want to bend it to my will later in life.

You can get a SATA-to-IDE drive caddy that is advertised for IBM to fit in there. So you can still use your SATA drive.

    almost

If I could convert the desktop IDE to the laptop IDE I could use the IDE to SATA adapter to convert my SATA to IDE using IDE...

Yea, like someone else said, you either get an optibay, or a custom setup.

There are other people who have done it, google around and you will find info.

(iirc, you might need an adapter cable to get power out of that plug they have)
