Howdy all. I have a MBP I bought last July and I have noticed in the last 2-3 weeks that the battery life is less. I cycled my battery as directed when I bought the machine, and occasionally after that (probably monthly, if not a little more often). I had noticed that it has been shutting down a lot quicker, say from 10% - 20% power rather than the 6% warning and 3% shutdown/sleep that I was used to.

So today, I did a software update which included a battery firmware update supposedly, and I have noticed a DRAMATIC decrease in my batter life just since that update! I have the machine plugged in right now after a shutdown and although the battery charge percentage keeps rising (currently at 85%) the time available is listed as 44 minutes.

Does anyone have any insight for me on this? Any recommendations? I obviously would like to extend my battery life if at all possible. Did anyone else experience this after doing a software update? I am using OSX v. 10.4.9 and I just did the update a couple hours ago.

Also, do you know if battery is covered under warranty? If so, I will go purchase extended warranty right now.

    Thanks!

recalibrate your battery and do a reset of PMU, it should resolve the problem. (This is what I did)

The time it shows while you're plugged in is the time remaining until fully charged.
You may want to remove the battery to make sure it's seated correctly and doesn't have any signs of defection.

thanks - I didn't think to reset PMU. I'll do recalibrate and reset PMU and check to make sure batt is seated correctly.
