is it better to have the ram equal on both sides in the macbook as in like 2 sticks of 512, or is it ok or better to have a 1gig stick in one slot, thanks all the reply

Most people have been saying it doesn't matter. I haven't had much dealing with duel channel vs. single channel. If you are not planning on upgrading past a gig, go ahead and get 2x 512 or 1x1 gig and 1x512 if you want to just buy a 1 gig stick on top of what comes with the macbook.
I ordered 2x1 gig for my MBP.
But overall, it's doubtful you'll see much of a difference between single and duel channel.

There is a review showing that the MBP has shown a 20% increase in speed using dual channel memory. I will try and find it for you and give you a link.

that would be cool if you could find that xbandaidx. I'd be curious whick apps actually benefit from it. I could see really only the Pro level apps benefiting from dual channel.

why did I spell dual duel on my previous post? lol...

Well I can tell you from my personal experience of going from 1.5 gigs in single channel to two gigs in dual channel that the difference is probably not that big. Certainly not 20%, unless it is a memory benchmark. As far as overall performance, I don't think it would be perceivable.
