So I was quoted about a month and my dates are between the 23 and the 27. I paid for the 2 day shipping so that it would come as close as possible to the early side of that... any idea how the rMBP's are coming along? Should i expect the 27 or somewhere in the middle?

I was quoted 5 to 10 business days for mine, and it arrived in 5 days (which was yesterday.)

Was this directly from apple? If so, I'll feel pretty jipped... I ordered mine 2 weeks ago...

It depends on the level of customization that you had. With Macs in general, people who order the stock configurations tend to get them a little faster than those that add more customization options. That's the way it was when I ordered my early 2011 13" MBP and my mid-2011 MBA. I ordered my MBP the same time as someone else. I ordered the stock Core i7 13" MBP configuration while the other person had Apple increase the RAM to 8GB and slap a 750GB HDD in it. We both ordered at exactly the same time but my MBP came in about a week earlier.

The same thing happened with someone else when I ordered my MBA. I picked up just the stock baseline configuration while someone else ordered a more customized 11" MBA. Again, mine came in about a week earlier than theirs. That pattern was also visible back when Apple was still selling the PowerBook G4. My supervisor at the time ordered one with the better GPU while a colleague ordered the stock configuration. Both were placed in the same order but the stock model arrived earlier.

Yes, I ordered the stock version of the higher end model, so kornchild is probably right.

I ordered the base of the rMBP... that was the only one that seemed to have the most backorder...

Also the popularity of the configurations play an important role. Right now I imagine the two baseline configurations are the most popular so those may take longer to come in than a more customized unit until Apple can supply enough to get over that initial demand.

i ordered the baseline 13 inch air with 8 gb ram upgrade and from the time i ordered it until the time i got it to open was 4 days total. it made it from china in that amount of time plus i did no special shipping. shipping was default.

so im guessing the baseline 13 with upgraded ram wasnt popular.

the 15 inch retina model is special so everyone wants to buy one no matter what the configuration.

I ordered the upgraded model + 16GB ram and was quoted 4 weeks. I imagine that after the first batch sold out, almost everyone is getting a month lead these days regardless of configuration.

    I ordered mine on 6/26 w/ 3-4 weeks ~7/25-7/31

    512GB/16GB/2.6 rMBP

This feels like forever.. considering my Toshiba Laptop has been going downhill more and more everyday.. can no longer use MS Office nor Windows Installer, so I've been unable to DL Airport Utility to hook up to the Time Capsule..

I get emails from macmall saying that they have the base model in stock, I also think I got one from bestbuy saying the same as well. This is probably the longest I have ever waited for a purchase to arrive and its killing me.

If one were to add Apple Care Warranty, does it start the day I receive the unit or the day I order it? It would be bad if it started the moment I bought the laptop and had to wait a month to actually get it.

Excellent question. I may have to stop by the Apple Store on the way home and ask a "genius".

its normally dated when you receive and register the laptop... when you first use it. They give some leeway in there too as I've had one that was 2 weeks past what it listed as the warranty end date, but they still covered it under warranty because the date was an "estimate"

Was just coming in to say this same thing - I confirmed it with the Apple folks. You log in and register the Apple Care account with your machine SN when you get it.

Thanks for the info on apple care. I will be springing for it since the MBP+R is so expensive to repair. Now just need to play the waiting game on the delivery.

Whoa whoa whoa... the applecare does not click in until after your original warranty expires. So for example... You buy january 1 2012 you get a year warranty that last till january 1 2013. Your three year applecare lasts 2 years so from 2013 till 2015. That is how it works. I also confirmed that you can purchase it anytime during the first year of ownership. I ended up purchasing my rmbp and am going to ask for the applecare for christmas from my folks so that I dont have to shell out that cash. I confirmed that this is allowed with the people at apple... that is just another thing to consider.

Ok so I just checked my status after reading that now they lowered the new shipment dates to 2-3 weeks. I just checked and my order was pushed back 2 days and is now showing possible shipping btw the 24-30th. This will not work for me seeing as I leave town on the 28th... Should I contact apple and complain and see if they can verify that I will get it before I leave town? I have never been more frustrated with waiting and am usually a very patient person, but spending 2300 and then them pushing back the shipping w/o alerting me is not cool...
    ----
Update: Called up apple and they said that usually the orders come in on the frontside of those dates but if by chance it does not go into order processing, then I can cancel the order without a hitch. Its still 10 days out, so Its a tad early for me to complain I guess, but as the days get closer, the fact they push them back is kinda uncalled for.

    ---
    update 2

They upgraded me to free next day shipping instead of the 2-day that I paid for. I am guessing this may be due to my phonecall seeing as it happened shortly after I hung up. Kudos
