Hey all I am unable to get Windows and the latest bootcamp driver to work correctly.

I am only able to get half the screen brightness, and unable to access the bootcamp control panel.

When I try and access the panel it give me a permission error.

Anyone care to help a guy out.

That is a common error as Boot Camp currently doesn't officially support Windows 8. Apple likely won't support it until Windows 8 reaches RTM stage. Even then, if it is anything like their support for Windows 7 when it reached RTM, things are going to be buggy.

Theres a really long thread dedicated to Windows 8 and the RMBP (though many posts are off-topic, mine included) located here. I suggest you read through that as the same issue was discussed. The last solution I remember was someone going back down to Windows 7 and waiting for Boot Camp 4.0 (which likely won't come out until Mountain Lion).

You can disable adaptive brightness deep in the Control Panel power profile advanced settings. That will allow you to control up to full brightness. See attached.

Well I am using Bootcamp 4.0 and there is no difference.

Although Disabling adaptive lighting worked for the screen brightness.

    Thanks Thors

Tried both Bootcamp sets, from my older MBP (3.3 I believe) and the rMBP with mountain lion DP4 and Bootcamp 4.

Still can't use the bootcamp control panel.

Right, but windows 8 isn't supported yet. It probably won't be supported until after ML and Windows 8 are both released.

My point is that there are obvious changes to the boot support and process when you compare Windows 7 to Windows 8. Some of those changes are described in the referenced blog post.

I have no doubt Apple will have to make some changes to support Windows 8, if they choose to do so.

I am not expecting that until around Christmas.

Those changes only apply to a particular subset of systems, and that doesn't include the rMBP (or any apple laptops).

However, there are other differences between the operating systems and they will need to be accommodated with updated drivers.
