I am a computer engineering major in college, and I am about to buy this macbook, but I am not sure if the laptop can handle all the engineering programs I'll be using. The specs are

    core 2 duo 2.1ghz
    4gb of ram
    video card: intel x3100
    320gb hard drive

I am wondering if there is any kind of 3D programming, will the laptop not lag when it is trying to run it?

I have not used any 3D programing applications, but many 3D games and those lame Intel graphics will struggle with anything 3D. You're not upgrading the RAM from Apple are you? get it from Newegg, you'll save a bunch.

Ask your tutors which applications they will be using. Chances are some of them are going to be Windows only, in which case you would be much better off just getting a Dell or something.
