Only after you connect to a printer will OS X automatically install the necessary software and make it appear in the Printer folder. Unless you have a problem with waiting a few seconds for OS X to configure after connecting to your printer the first time, there will be no issues.

Unless you tampered with the OS X installation, or manually deleted some of the printer drivers, your Mac should have no problem connecting to your printer, unless if the printer was one of them enterprise grade all-in-one solutions (those big ones that take up the space of a closet that you see in offices).

    x) I love the way MacOSX handles printers. All I need to do it plug it in, and it can print instantly, so bothersome CDs, no bothersome installing. :)

And meanwhile eats up 4 GB as it holds drivers for every printer known to mankind! I'd rather just take the five minutes it takes to install the driver off a CD.

being a mac owner i see your point but, say you on your travels, and you need to print off some stuff you can always just grab the CD and install the software, but with that extra load you can print anywhere any time without CD's that is truely connivence

Before all you Mac peeps get too high on yourselves...

I plugged in my printer and Windows Vista immediately and automatically downloaded the driver from the internet and installed it. No wasted disk space, no fussing with discs. Best of all worlds.

OSX works great with printers when using USB.

I recently got a Canon MF4270 and connected it using an RJ45 network cable to my wireless router but I had to manually install the drivers for both windows and OSX. It works great though. I now can print wirelessly from any computer in the house. :)

Pretty much all modern OS' are plug and play with printers these days, with the exception of Windows XP. Vista and Linux both recognize my printer immediately and install the correct drivers.

Printers are easy. Today at work I plugged a friends video camera into my Firewire port and waited for some dialog box to pop up (I'm a recent switcher). Nothing happened, so on a lark, I hit the Rewind button in iMovie. Guess what? I was instantly in control of the camera, and importing the movie within seconds. Try THAT on Windows. I have, and it blows.
