    hi there,

got my powerbook a month ago and everythings fine, but the battery, when on ac, stoped charging up to 100% about two weeks ago. not it is always aroung 97 - 98% full (and seems to be going down).
    anyone else experienced this problem?
    any suggestions?

    cheers
    gernot

Just discharge it completely once. Should work fine upon recharging.

it could just be an estimation error, which a full discharge could help reset. Also i think that apples notebooks won't necessarily recharge to 100%, just to be easier on the battery. Also, if you make heavey use of the battery, it could be slowly losing some life.

This isn't a Problem- Apple's power management utility determines where to stop charging your battery in order to maximize battery life.

In some instances, charging it to 100% would put undue stress on your battery and shorten its life. The extra 2-3 minutes you'd most likely get aren't worth it.

It should charge until it's green, then you're 'full.'

Does it work? From experience I'd say yes- I've got friends with 2 year old Powerbooks still running on their original battery (about 85% of its original capacity, too) compared to my HP which needs a new battery every 8-12 months.

There are several good, simple, and free battery utilities that give you some more information than simple status. Coconut is one at http://www.coconut-flavour.com/

Does anyone know what the battery life is for the MacBook Pro based on typical usage (i.e. a few word docs, surfing the web etc...) Thanks!

i would say the absolute max that you could get would be four hours on the macbook pro
