    hey guys,

I was wondering if its normal for the power brick to be hissing when its connected to a wall outlet? The noise isn't too bad, I jut want to know if its harmful in anyway.

The power from that outlet may not be very clean. Are you using the ground plug or the little 2 prong? The ground plug should always be used, especially for plugging straight into the wall.

is the ground plug the one with the 3 prongs? then yes. I have it connected to a surge protector, and this is the first time I've ever heard this sound on any of my laptop power bricks.

Try a different surge protector. If the problem persists, contact Apple.

Is your MBP/MB older? There was a handful of bad power bricks. But most of them had melting ends (the part that plugs into the laptop).
Mine melted and went up in smoke in the middle of class :-D

lol. I got my MBP on Friday. I think its my electricity at home, because the hissing noticeably reduced when I used a higher quality surge protector.

Do you have anything else plugged into that surge protector? If so, try having just the MBP plugged in and see if that changes the hiss.

Also, have you tried a different circuit?
