hello, Im looking at the possibility to buy a macbook, now Im torn wether to get the last gen plastic mb (decent price atm) or spend a little more and get the new gen alum mb. now, i like the backlit keyboard on the new one but I dont like the color (why did they changed it). port wise, what is the difference I will be looking for? (mostly ways to connect my camcorder).

another question, will I be able to connect my logitech mouse to the mb? or am I stuck with the one Apple sells?, really looking forward to your input, thank you

If youre connecting your DV camera to the laptop, the new macbooks dont have firewire, so you won't be able to connect it.

If thats a major feature for you, you'll have to get the old generation (white) as they have firewire.

If you have a newer camera, that saves to memory stick/hdd you should be fine with new ones, as they usually connect using usb.

You'll be able to connect your mouse, don't worry.

As far as your camera goes, how does it connect? The safe bet is to go with the older MBs, since they had FireWire.

thats true, I can always connect it through usb, now do you think the price difference its worth it?

I can get a last gen mb for 994 through amazon and the new one costs aprox 1200 if Im not mistaken, thanks for your quickly response

Based on your requirements, I would go with the old gen. Get the black one, it looks cooler :p

If you look around hard enough (CraigsList, EBay, etc.), you might be able to find one of the older Santa Rosa (Merom, not Penryn) MBPs for your budget, if you're lucky.
