I was reading some where that sending mail from IMAP accounts sends your password unencrypted to anyone whos watching. If this is true how do i get it to be protected. Also does reading the emails also give out your password?

In Mail.app, go to Mail-->Preferences-->Accounts. Choose the account you want to edit, then click the Advanced button. Towards the bottom there is a checkbox for use SSL. Make sure it's checked. You now should have a secure connection to your IMAP mailbox.
