So far so good, but I've only had mine for a little over a month. You can get protective covers for the palm rest to avoid it, but since it's been such a small amount of time try going to an apple store to see if they can repair it for you.

Different finishes will react differently to the natural oils in your hands (for that matter, different hands produce different amounts of oil and sweat). Generally, pretty finishes wear down a lot faster than utilitarian ones.

Just about to hit one year, and nothing like that on my MBP. Take it to Apple.

It's true... about 7-10% of the world's population has sebaceous and sweat glands that produce oil/sweat that are slightly more acidic than the rest of the world. This is very unfortunate... because acidic oil/sweat will corrode some jewelry and other metalic finishes as well.

Those protective covers are basically a layer/film of plastic or other material (depending on which one you get) that just lie on top of the palmrest... basically, it's like a sticker.

Well I've been using my MPB for hours daily since May without a mark on it... guess I am lucky enough not to have 'Alien' sweat :)
