So, I have a classmate that just got a macbook with Leopard on it.
We went to install some software, and it asked for username/password. She entered the information and it told us that she didn't have admin privileges.
I've tried the apple solution of booting from the leopard disc, but I can't get OS X to actually boot from it, it only wants me to install.
Two questions:
How do I boot into OS X from the leopard disc?
Is there another way to get an account to have admin privileges with no current admin account on the system?

You cannot actually boot the OS from the installation DVD, as there is no extracted version of OS X on the DVD.
It is quite strange that she does not have admin privileges, maybe she just forgot her password? Does OS X say she's an Administrator in Accounts? -
I think you need to provide abit more detail, such as is this a school provided MB? If so, then you will most likely not get admin priviledges and most likely you need to need speak to the sys admin for any changes on that MB.
If it is store bought, then reinstall. Otherwise this sounds like a school provided MB and it sounds like your trying to circumvent this by coming here.
Don't want to sound mean, but that first sentence just made me suspicious. -
No, it's her own computer, so rule that out.
She does not have administrator access on her account, and there are no other accounts on the computer. Her password works fine, it's just that her account doesn't have administrator abilities. Her account is listed as "Standard".
This is a fairly common occurrence with Leopard. Apples suggestion is to boot OS X from the Leopard dvd, then change the account from there, but like I said it doesn't boot up from that(just reinstall).
no admin in Leopard
