What's the program? I'd say run XP as it's cheaper and has less issues than Vista. The OEM versions should be fine providing you have a proper key and can activate it properly. It installs fine though. :)

Also, this topic might be more suitable on the Windows/Microsoft forums, since it really has nothing to do with Apple/OS X?

the programmes is well autocad and other 3d rendering programmes...
i was leaning towards the xp side of things... as i am used to that plus as you have said its been out for a while thus less bugs...

as for ollibolli.... i am posting it on this part of the forum because i wanted to get a feed back from those who have actually made the switch and tried it out
i know what is better between the two os... just wanted to know how it performs on mac... thanks for the comment tho.. :)

Has nothing to do with OSX, but everything to do with Apple. He wants to know if OEM Windows will run on his Macbook Pro. This is an excellent question, since OEM WinXP is about $150 less than the retail version, but from what I understand of OEM WinXP, one has to provide a receipt showing mobo/cpu/hardware puchase.

Sorry, guess I misunderstood his initial question. I read it as "which is better, XP or Vista".

As far as I know, any full version of XP SP2 or Vista works with boot camp, while the upgrade versions don't. OEM or not shouldn't make a difference. It's often possible to order the OEM versions as long as you buy *any* hardware, such as an IDE cable or something :p Not sure if that has changed recently though.

for anything "pro" (cad, pro audio, etc) go xp, hands down. lower system overhead, better stability, more mature platform.

XP, definately less overhead memory-wise and less headaches. Vista is nice but it does use a bit more memory, but it all depends what you want to use it for. If its just a few specific programs, id do xp, but if you want to use a whole windows OS, try out Vista. I havent spent much time with vista on my MBP but i know that it sucks ass in Parallels since it has to emulate all the 3d stuff and then run opengl on top of that (osx)

The apps he's using are for business not personal amusement. It's not good to be adventurous with an OS that cannot guarantee getting work done. Go with XP.

I've actually been pretty impressed with how Vista (32 bit version) runs on my 2.2 MBP. It runs great for the most part, and I'm liking how both the bluetooth mouse driver and iMic I am using are actually working better, as XP was wonky with both of those (but YMMV).
