    ok, so ive had my FreeAgent 500GB Seagate External for about a month - worked fine up until now.

    everything is plugged in correctly, and the power light on the device is on, but for some reason my computer is not recognizing it? Is my drive broken?

    Hmm, that's weird. Try restarting the MacBook, and reconnecting then.

    Also, open up Disk Utility (just Spotlight it), and see if it can 'see' the external hard drive there. Sometimes, the external hard drive can be seen in Disk Utility even though it doesn't show up on the Desktop.
