hi all. i'm really into watching music videos and would have no problem accessing them @ launch.yahoo.com on my pc. however, as a new powerbook user, whenever i try to watch it thru my powerbook, it says that i have to have netscape 4.0 to watch them?!

i tried using firefox (cuz i thought netscape and firefox uses the same engine) but that didn't work.... also tried installing microsoft internet explorer and macromedia flash player w/ no avail.

anyone have any ideas... please share!!

it could be a "use this exact browser or else it won't work, and if you don't want to, then too bad". You could see if there is a netscape port for our mac systems. i however dont know if there is. Maybe you need the windows media player installed as well.

Hate to be the one to pop the bubble but almost all the music videos on launch.yahoo.com are in Windows Media Player format. I don't use a Mac, so I'm not sure if its possible or not to play these on a Mac.

This is one of the *big* things I'm looking at right now in considering getting the new January iBooks. I've read that Its not just Windows Media Player formats, its also old DivX files as well that give Mac users [at least the ones that upgraded to Tiger] problems. I recently read somebody posting about the DivX.com website saying that a Tiger version of the DivX codecs hasn't been released and won't be released for a while because of all the "big changes" that were done in Tiger to audio/video playing... Hmm.. not sure how true this is though, this was by somebody at a rumor forums.. Take it with a grain of salt.

there is media player 9 for mac which does handle wmv/wma files, then there is also the VLC player which is heavily multiplatform and can play pretty much any video file out there. although it still does have some bugs with some files. But since when is any player perfect?
