I' ve been using a pc forever.
Looking at a Macbook Pro 13" or smaller.
How easy is it to transfer files from a pc to mac?
I use ACT for contract tracking software and want to use it on the new MAC as well. I have word docs. I get files sent to me in word too.
    Ideas?
    Thanks.

What kind of files are you trying to transfer?

The easiest way is to just stick them on a usb stick and copy them onto your new computer.

Transferring files from a PC to a MAC is easy. It can be done by sharing your files on your PC over the network and copied that way, Copying the files to a USB HD or memory stick (preferably FAT32 formatted) etc.

You files will come over fine just using copy or dragging and dropping. The trick is if the files are associated with applications like MS Word or ACT Contact manager you'll need equivalent programs on the MAC to read or import them for them to be useful.

WORD files are generally easy - lots of MAC programs know how to use them. OpenOffice (free), iWork (inexpensive), MS Office 2008 (most expensive but most compatible). Depending on the complexity of the documents there may be formatting or feature issues with the docs but in general Office 08 does an excellent job with everything but macros. All other packages have the macro issue as well as other issues with verious features but often documents come over completely clean.

There are a lot of contact manages for the MAC but I do not think ACT is available anymore for the MAC. You may have to export your ACT contacts and import them into something you find on the MAC or more likely there are several contact managers that can do a direct import.

    Hope this helps

The biggest problem I had was transferring emails when I switched.
Best advice for these is to try and switch to using IMAP. This will make the switch super easy.

If your using Thunderbird you just need to transfer the profile. Just be sure you have the same release version.
