What does Merom mean exactly? Is it just another word for saying 64 bit system? And what does it mean when people say 64 bit machines won't be able to work 32 bit stuff? What stuff?

Merom is the code name for the Core2Duo chip. It is the follow up to the CoreDuo, codenamed Yonah. Merom is a 64-bit processor whereas Yonah is not. Merom will handle 32-bit apps just fine, it will have them translated by the OS I believe. I would not worry about compatability, AMD has been all 64-bit for some time now and I have heard no issues.

64 bit machines will run 32 bit code.
