    sorry, i should've put this message in this forum...

    ====

    i'm assuming DYI means 'do it yourself' for anyone that has upgraded their i/power-books, is it as simple as the pc notebooks?? ie taking off the small back cover and inserting the memory there.

    i figure i'll save $90 by buying a 1gb stick of ram at crucial ($185) instead of paying $270 for apple to install their own.

    also, what brand of ram does apple use??

    one more thing. which brand of ram is considered the best?? crucial? corsair? kingston?

    thanks!!

    It is quite easy to add more ram to both the ibook and the powerbook. I can't tell you what ram is built in (brand) as its built in further then i am willing to dig in (which isn't that far).

    lots of people seem to like corsair, i don't really know about the crucial ram tho. Personnally i would prolly go with the cheaper one, buts thats because i am cheap and poor. My guess is that either would be fine.

    It shouldn't. Every company can expect there user to want to upgrade the ram and have a ram upgrade exclusion in there void warranty statement.I haven't heard of anyone saying upgrading ram will void the warranty. Plus some notebooks are designed to be easily upgrade ram. Basically ram is the easiest thing to change and has the lest chance of doing damage to the unit if its changed.

    RAM is user upgradeable on a Mac notebook. Instructions are in the printed information supplied with the unit.

    If the manual is not handy, the company website has the same information available.
