i leave my mbp on my desk most of the time unless i travel, i don't believe in leaving the battery in while plugged into a ac power supply lest i kill my battery.

recently i've read that leaving it in doens't do much harm...

    can we have a poll...

who believes that leaving the battery in is harmless (or almost) and we all should leave it in and i'm wasting my time for removing it any chance i get?

I noticed that leaving the battery in makes the computer a lot hotter, which causes the fans to work harder and louder. I leave my battery out in hopes that the battery and the computer will last longer.

I recently heard that performance might drop slightly when the battery is out.. not sure if this is true or even noticeable.

Leaving the battery out will definitely allow the battery to hold more charge for longer. It is a fact that heat will cause lithium batteries to hold less charge and by keeping the battery outside the laptop it removes it from the heat which destroys it. One of my friend's who uses a Macbook Pro only had half an hour of useful battery life after only having the laptop for about a year. This is because he would play games while plugged into the wall with the battery in, gereating a lot of heat and essentially destroying the battery.

Definitely take the battery out unless you are charging it, sitting somewhere where someone might trip over your cable, or live somewhere where the power is not steady.

I always keep my battery in.
Played a fair few games on my MBP in the 13 months I've had it now.
Still get about 3-4 hours of battery life with wifi on and half screen brightness.

i do suggest you leaving it in.
i always leave my battery in my laptop.

taking out the battery will reduce the performance.
it also makes the laptop vulnurable to power outage.

wheter you leave or take out the battery; the battery's life will continue to degrade.

I run my windows notebooks without batteries if they won't be mobile for a long time. They are all hooked into a UPS so no worries about power :)

I don't do this with macs as they throttle performance.
