I am using 2.4ghz iMac with leopard and I am going to upgrade the ram [from 1gb to 4gb]. I am also using xp through bootcamp. My question is would xp recognize 4gb of ram ? I have read little bit about how it depends on hardware and processor [& there’s a way to tweak memory allowance in xp] but I don’t really have a definite answer.

Could someone explain, how it works or what do I need to do to take maximum advantage of available physical memory ?

    Thank you

XP (x86) will only recognize roughly 3.2gb. I don't think boot camp supports the 64-bit edition of Windows yet, but that is the only way you're going to get it to recognize the full 4gb.

Windows XP 32bit will only recognize 2.98GB on my MBP, which I find strange since on my XPS M1330 it recognized 3582MB of my 4GB. Bizarre.

It's not going to read the full 4gbs, I can tell you that for sure. Only Windows Pro x64 will, and OS X Leopard of course. ;)
