Everytime i take my macbook pro out of sleep or turn it on, the hard drive makes this very loud squeek noise (similar to sound of tv turning off).

Is this normal? never happened to me on previous laptops.

Sorry to sound extremely paranoid, but I just spent 3000$ CDN on this machine, I am just making sure everything is fine.

    Thanks.

A squeek? Not on mine... I hear the clicking it makes when reading/writing, but no squeek.

I believe that is the optical drive starting up, and not the hard drive!

Pros are using Fujitsu drives, they are known to be more reliable and quiet than Seagate and Hitachi.

yeah i agree with sam, it is most likely be an optical drive. my 17" MBP uses hitachi, it is audible compared to the seagate on my 13" MB though it is still very silent.
