This is a big surprise to me - Apple has been one of those diehart matte screen makers for a long time, besides IBM/Lenovo. I'm interested to see how they look in person.

I can tell you the new Macbook looks great with the glossy screen. I bought one today and got to play around with one at my local Apple store. Real nice notebook.

I went to the Apple store today and played with the new macbook--its very eye catching at first with the glossy screen, however--it seems it might be harder to read text on vs. the matte finish version. I was hoping they had the glossy screen in a macbook pro but they did not--plus the plastic frame seems durable enough, but could be prone to major scratching...remember that black Nano when it first came out :>....

Still very undecided wether I should go for the gloss feature or not...I own a couple of mac's now--desktop G5 and a 12" powerbook, but updating the powerbook---it seems the gloss might be just a little too reflective after awhile....think I should stick with the Matte...thinking of the 17" macbook pro--its much bigger then my 12" powerbook now--but just not comfortable with that 13" incher--also, the keys feel a little different vs. the powerbook and the 15" is nice..but would have more room on a bigger screen---.
    *********
MY advice...the gloss is nice for photos and video, but after that---trying to do other things might turn to be quite annoying and give you a GLARING headache...:>...i.e--word processing, reading text, etc....(seems sort of cartoonish.) I think the gloss feature is nice, but unless you need it--I'd stick with what you are used to.....unless you want the 13"---for one thing, the price is darn good!!

Just out of curiosity but does it have a back-lighted keyboard? Would be useful on the black model heh.

No backlit keyboard. It is not hard to read text. The case is made of very "dense" plastic. It seemes durable to me. If Asus did make this notebook, then i can see why Asus gets props for build quality. Solid notebook. On forums, people tend to be extremely fussy about differents things and really, i'm no different. This is a nice notebook, period. I switched my order to the white one though. I just couldn't justify an extra $150.00 just for black. This is a secondary computer for me and my first Mac ever. I got it loaded:

    2.0 gig core duo
    2.0 gig 667 ram
    80gig HD
    iworks
    Bluetooth mouse
    Airport Extreme

The shell is made of durable polycarbonate.

One thing that annoy me, is the price Apple charge for 2GB ram.
