Have the opportunity to switch from a macbook pro CD to a black macbook C2D. Tempting with the new processor. Use regular computing.

Erm, no. Don't bother. Not unless you have a dire need for a DL dvd burner. And a larger initial HD. And a gig of ram standard instead of 512.

C2D is nice, but not worth the upgrade to from CD. They will both become obsolete at about the same time period. 64 bit processing won't really take off for probably another 2 years, in which time both processors will be fairly obsolete.

I think both MB and MBP comes with either glossy or matte.

That is a personal preference. I hate glossy, but there are tons who swear by it. Go to your local Apple retailer and look at the screens side by side, see which you like.

Glossy is clearly better, so personal preferences should not play a role in your recommendations.

I've heard that the matte screens on Macs offer superior (i.e., more accurate) color rendition, for what it's worth. And IMHO, the glossy's reflections are a pain.

I made the same decision last week. Ended up with the Blackbook C2D.

Here's what I found in my research..

    Choose MackBook Pro for:
-Games or 3D rendering (discrete graphics)
    -More Memory (up to 4GB)
-Larger Screen with better viewing angles
    -Express card slot
    -FireWire 800

    Choose MacBook for:
    -Portabililty (smaller and lighter)
    -Comparable speed in 2D use
    -Slightly better battery life
    -More durable casing
    -Cost
