hey guys, i am plannin to switch to mac now. but now m down to choose between macbook or macbook air.

i first decided on buying the macbook(white), but then i am beginning to like MBA now. although i download loads of stuff, but m buying an external HD of bout 500 gb capacity. so thts not a problem for me. MBA costs 1,199 for the base model (1.6 ghz), but jus wanna ask if its worth the price on overall basis? i mean wid the design and spec and other aspects...

i am not fussed bout gettin a better and powerful processor, coz i only do word processing n surfing on the internet. i am an undergrad doing my business degree in london.

I went for the Macbook. I still gaze longingly at the MBA every time I pass the Apple store. For me, it would not have worked. First of all, 80 gig isn't enough for me if I keep my photos and videos on my notebook. Second of all, I was a bit worried about that CPU speed. Now that I'm used to 2.4 ghz on my Penryn Macbook, I might get a little flustered on a 1.6 ghz machine.

But then there is the weight. I suppose I could live with the MBA if I kept a LOT of my data on a network drive instead of with me all the time. I really do like the machine and if I could afford a second, "road" machine the MBA would be my first choice.

For you, it sounds like the MBA might be your first choice. Just be careful about depending on an external drive for your files. You don't want to get caught on the road somewhere and can't get to something you need 'cuz you left it on your 500 gig external drive. And if you're thinking about carting the external drive around with you, shouldn't you really buy a machine where everything you need with you is in one package? (Macbook or Macbook pro).

I really don't think it's worth the price at all.

The MB is a far, FAR better value for the money. It's more powerful, for less the cost. And for some reason, buying a computer with a standard hard drive with the same capacity as a iPod just doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Granted, the MBA is a beautiful piece of technology. But you're pretty much paying a gigantic premium for the style.

Nope. Not worth it. If you're looking at spending basically 2 grand on a laptop, go with the MBP.

If you want to spend a bit less and treat yourself to a few dozen super awesome steaks and belgium ales, go with the MB :-D

I traded my Macbook Pro in for a Macbook Air... No complaints to date. System works wonderfully. Which is shocking cause I use Final Cut Express and even with using that I haven't made a big compromise.

"Worth" is really based on how each person values his/her own money.

We cant really decide for you. If itll suit your needs fine, with some external stuff, then go for it.

its got a much better design than the MB, and im sure itll hold up much better too. Plus, its sexy.

if the 1 usb port, one speaker, low processor, and low HD space are ok with you, cause you dont need a lot, i say DO IT. 2gb is plenty for just OSX.

Go with the macbook dude, better price, better machine overall. Really not all that much of a difference in form factor unless you are going to be traveling all the time and need the lightness. Up to you though.
