    Hi,
I am wondering what would happen if MAC Hard drive crashes. Will the store/Apple help me to recover data ? Since Apple doesnt provide Accidental damage plan etc., I am not sure what would happen then ?

Can anyone share his comments on this please ?

    Thanks,
    Mauvais.

Well, the obvious thing... You back up your damn data and expect to have NO DATA RECOVERED.

FIY, no company includes data recovery as far as I know (as a service included in warranty) even under ADP. Always assume that if the drive crashes, there is nothing to recover. If you don't take the responsibility to use the insanely easy Time Machine to back your data up, then too bad...

Data recovery services can be VERY expensive. Its also a very time consuming process. I've done it before... It can take several days to recover data from a drive and you can neither guarantee full data recovery or even any of the files will be un corrupted.

apple will obviously cover the replacement of the drive though.

Data recovery can cost several thousand...it isn't included, guaranteed.

Please backup. It is rather painless, especially with Time Machine. No company is going to do data recovery for you for free.

They won't. Take care of your own data - the latest Mac OS even has a built in back-up program.

I've had some success removing "dead" HDs from computers and hooking them up with an IDE to USB converter - some manage to spin up for longer enough to copy off some key documents/etc.

Short answer though: no, they won't help, you should be backing up your data. Please. Really. Do it. You can get big honkin' 300 GB+ external drives these days for not much at all, and Leopard has Time Machine for VERY painless backups.

Yeah, just use time machine, or better yet, use the time capsule so that you do not need to worry a thing.

Yep, my friend's MacBook had a hard drive crash. Just ticked and wouldn't boot - stuck at the white screen with a ? or something like that, as I recall. Apple replaced it in 2 seconds, but no data recovery, that's for darn sure. He lost hundreds of irreplaceable photos.... total bummer. :(

Back up your data, people! If you own Leopard, you've no excuses! :D
