Ok so I'm new to this.....a couple of wks ago we were on our Mac laptop and it started to smell like something was burning. We opened it up and one of the little chip out of three I can't remember the #s on it was burned out. Then today I came home to my Mac laptop not working. When I go to turn it on it beeps 3xs @ me and won't turn on. Also we found a puddle of orange fluid under it. I thought it was soda someone spilled but it didn't smell like it @ all... any thoughts on this ??? Greatly appreciate any help

Firstly, I don't think an IPS screen would help your post to be more readable. Please use the default black colored text. :)
Your battery may be leaking and that's not good. If it's under warranty you should take it to the Apple store and have them look at it. Waiting for probable guesses here may not be to your advantage if you have leaking that doesn't smell good.

Is it sticky? there are definitely no orange fluids (or any fluids!) inside the computer.

I believe there were 2 separate incidents based on what you are saying.

Time point 0: acquired mac laptop
Time point 1: (weeks ago) a chip burnt out inside the laptop and you had it repaired under warranty
Time point 2: someone spilled orange soda on the laptop, but it no longer smelled like anything by the time you saw it.

is that accurate? let me know if I have it right or not.

i know that the 3x beeps usually mean one (or both) of the RAM is dead (or bad connection).

So I'm looking at it now could that be from the burnt chip(not sure what to call it)?

might be right--RAM is right underneath keyboard.

If it's a Macbook 13, the memory is located next to the battery. Just pop out the battery and remove a metal separator.

There is a "L" shaped Metal divider inside the battery compartment held on by three small screws (the screws are towards the middle of the macbook). Take that off, you'll see two RAM chips, there is a small piece of plastic that you push to the left and it'll push the RAM chip out.

Take out both RAM chips, clean the gold contacts with a DRY paper towel, and then just put ONE RAM back in, it doesn't matter which slot. Now don't put the "L" shaped metal divider or the battery in yet, I want you to plug it in directly and then see if it powers on, if it still beeps 3 times then UNPLUG it, take out that RAM and put the other RAM in. Again, Plug it in and see if it powers on.

    Let us know the results.

Maybe some pictures of your "orange liquid" and the "burnt chip" will help us help you.

    Anyways, pictures would be helpful.
However, it seems to be something with the ram to my knowledge.
