Do like I do, burn test, simply just leave your computer/laptop on for a long period of time, usually 6-8 hours a day for a couple of days.

It might not be a good thing for the battery, but I guess the longer it's on the better you'll know if the machine is functioning as it should be.

If you plan on leaving the machine on for a long time, remove the battery to prolong battery life.

one other question first- can a pc itunes library/playlist be used on a mac if i just get the files over to my mac?
i really dont want to have to make a new songs on ipod playlist and go through all my songs... that literally takes 2-3 days to do..

yes.. they should still be compatible. Just make sure you get the playlists transfered over as well (not just your media files).

the battery calibration does not damage the battery.
Neither does draining it once in a while to calibrate (it does add to the cycles, but seriously... better to have it better usable every day and have to replace it a few weeks earlier)

It does however calibrate the internal battery management chip, which controls the recharging (among other things) and will therefore give you longer run times on battery power, as the chips definition of full and empty becomes skewed over time.

It will not maximize the battery life (as in how long before you need a new one) as that is mostly dependant on charge cycles and physical age of the cells. Lithium cells have a limited shelf life. Even if you never use your battery it will still only last between 2 and 4 years.
Flawed tech? yup, but the best we have.

As sulkorp stated, please read the stickies :).

In the New Mac Owners section of the Mac Switcher's Guide, I covered a lot of the questions that new Mac owners ask, including the question you asked, about what to do right away.

I wasn't trying to be rude. This is a good topic that needs to be brought up from time to time even if it is covered in the sticky. That way people can revisit the question and we can collectively improve the answer :D!
