that is my query
does the OS slow down if you put everything on C:/
is it even called C:/ in OS X?
-
-
nope.
-
and whys that?
does os x break off a little chunk of the hard drive for itself and somehow prevent fragmentation?
so all you mac users just have one partition for everything?
no drive C, D etc.? -
OS X files get fragmented just like Windows files.
You can partition it if you want to. No harm there. I think it is more work than it's worth. Unless you are using a rather large drive, like a 1TB. -
i thought it was more useless to partition a huge one on mac because files dont get cluttered as easily on a huge drive
how do they come standard? just one drive? -

lol
thats quality
whats the most you ever lost on a cointoss.....sir? -
I wouldn't worry about fragmentation. Read this. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1375
-
well why the hell can't windows do that then
sunrise im still laughing at that well done sir
never have a seen such a well placed imagine on a forum -
i thought it was always kosher to leave your OS partition as free as possible to prevent slowdown and put your crap on a separate one
oh well i take your word for it
probably not gonna end up getting one anyway, they'll update the macbook line and keep the price at a sensible $2000 -

The reason some people do an "OS on one partition, data on another" is for separation in case they blow up the OS or are ones to frequently have the "oh my computer is slow I need to reinstall the OS" issues.
Macs use a UNIX-derived filesystem. How people set up the partitions is up to them, but the default is one big partition. Just like Windows does. -
thanks subzero!

is it necessary to put your data (games, videos etc.) on a seperate partition in OS X?
