Just got my macbook last night. I was trying to download istat. It is a xzip file and when i open istat it unarchives the file, but i don't see it anywhere. I tried to goto the program that comes with osx to see where it unzips files to, but its in /system/library/. i don't know how to access this folder

    thanks in advance

i just realize i have a ton to learn. I installed betterzip. got istat unzipped. i have the install file, and it installs. brings up the config window. But i dont see the prog anywhere. Do i have to install it everytime i want to use it. and is the only option to see stats by putting them in your taskbar? i thought there would be a way to have it run and you click on a icon and it would show you all the stats

to install programs you must drag them to your applications folder. IF IT'S THE WIDGET VERSION PRESS F12. If you don't know what a widget is, then you are seriously missing out on mac os x features. If you don't always want it in the menu bar then the widget option is ideal as it's not there unless you want it. Also if you want programs to start automatically when you boot, like smc fan control, right click them on the dock and select open at login. Hope this helps. So as an example, once you have unzipped the program, drag the program to the left of the window where your home directory and applications folder are listed and drop it into the applications folder. That's it! It is now installed, no silly registry issues like windows.

I believe you have the iStat Pro widget...if so then open up Dashboard to see it. Dashboard should be on your Dock unless you removed it, and if you did, just press F12 to bring up Dashboard.
