    1) I am thinking of getting a TFT display for fine photography work with my MBP, or simply for times when I want to work with a bigger screen.

    2) I also have a hifi system which includes a DVD player with a SCART output (and a '2 in 1' video output) for connection to a TV

Is it possible to get a monitor which I could connect to my MBP for photo work but also use with a SCART cable for full DVD playback features from my hifi?

A bit of googling suggested not, so I would appreciate your recommendations :)

I have never seen or heard of the SCART connector before (I'm in the US).

What other signals does your DVD player output? Dell 2407wfp is a nice screen with versatile connections (no SCART though).

Beautiful pictures on your Flickr, btw.

Aren't there converters that allow this?

    thanks! :)

I don't know anything about it but a SCART looks like this and would mean that the remote control on my hifi would also display on the monitor, whereas if I only use the video out I only get the video signal (at least I think that's what it means!)

You could get a monitor TV type thing. I have a LG M203WA, a 20" 1680x1080 res screen with SCART etc. They are a bit more pricy than your standard LCDs, as expected, but they do allow you to hook many more devices.

Thanks, I'll look into that too. Even more pricey than an apple cinema display?

Nope. But the panel in the screen isn't anywhere near as high quality as the Apple Cinema displays.
