    Hi everybody!
I have a 2 year old apple g4 ibook 12 inch. It hasn't been working for some months now but I just havent had time to get around to repair it. The problems is that when it boots it goes into sleep mode (the white light in the front starts blinking and the screen goes black) and there is no way to wake it up. Sometimes if I play with the LCD at certain angles it "wakes up" for a second or two and then goes back to sleep mode. As it is the laptop is completely unfunctional as it wont give me more than some seconds of life before it goes to sleep. Has anybody had this problem? Any ideas? I am out of warranty by the way...thanks in advance!

Hrm, sell it for parts on ebay?
It sounds like maybe the part that detects if the lid is closed is broken.
No idea how to fix that. You could also call apple up and see how much it would be to get it fixed.

Tried resetting the PRAM or the PMU?
PRAM reset is when you hold down Alt+Apple+P+R right after you turn the power on, keep holding it down until you hear the startup chime a second time, then release.
PMU reset on an iBook of about your age (you said 2 years, so I assume it's one of the 2004 models) is to turn the computer off and simultaneously press, then release, Shift+Control+Alt+Power (the last being the on/off button), wait 5 seconds, then try starting it up. Be careful not to press any other keys while you do this.

With luck, one of these will work - if not, well... :/

    Hi ,
Thanks for the advice given so far, I wish I could try the PRAM/PMU solution but I just took the laptop to an authorized repair center in Germany (i am here studying). I hope they are honest if what you suggest is all that it takes to repair!....

It actually may be a dead battery. As in dead for good battery. Did you try starting it plugged in? It may make no difference anyway, since some computers won't work plugged or unplugged if their battery has retired. Hope the repair center figures it out.
