The iSight webcam on my iMac is not working. It worked when I made my user account picture, but now, when I click on photobooth, the picture is very very dark, mostly black except the window behind me, which shows up as grayish. I tried to use it in iMovie HD just as a test, but the program didn't seem to recognize the device. However, in System Profiler, it shows up as a USB devide that is working properly. Does anyone know what is the problem, and how I should fix it? Its not all that critical to my use of the system, but it would be nice to know that my 2 day old system is in proper working order....

Did you install any new software or updates? Wonder if it's possible to roll those back and see if it's something new that's affecting iSight.

The only things I've installed on there are whatever software updates Apple has given in the last 9 or so months since this iMac was manufactured, plus Firefox 2.0.0.2 or whatever is the latest release of FF2. I have no idea how to roll back updates in Mac, I'm clueless enough about the OS as is.

Just to be sure, how much light is there in the room. It sounds like it is working but you do not have sufficient light, or the isight is compensating for the brightness of the window. I think it is a lighting issue, not an iSight issue.

Now it has gone completely black, no shadow of the window behind me....
Hmmm, theres plenty of light in the room...even with the lights on, its black.
