    What is up with the orange "other" section taking up 600+ MB?

    does anyone know what that is or how i can find out?

    I took that screen shot from within itunes with the ipod connected.

    That would be the Firmware and the "OS" per say for the iPod

    are you sure? 600 megs worth? thats a lot of firmware. i don't care if it is but i just want to be sure.

    It probably depends on what you have on the iPod. I'd assume this "other" information would include:

    Games
    Firmware
    Playlist files
    Contacts
    Library files
    Notes
    Album artwork

    interesting... its possible i have 600 megs of album art i guess...

    i reformatted my ipod, and added more music too...

    now the orange section is taking up less space... something was up.

    The orange portion includes Album Artwork. I only load music and album artwork onto my iPod and when I notice they are being transferred, the Blue portion indicates the music itself and the Orange portion represents the album artwork.

    yeah, but i reformatted my ipod and the orange portion reduced by 66%. the album artwork is still on there, and it doesn't take up that much space.

    Sometimes the album art library on the ipod can get fouled up such that art for one album is repeated over multiple times. Thats probably why a reformat changed the size of the 'other' category.

    It might be a possibility..

    I have 15.44GB of music and about 166MB of "Other", which I'm sure is Album Artwork.
