Is it just me, or are the pictures I view using iPhoto more saturated/vibrant than through other software? The pictures look washed out in GIMP and online, and I just wanted to know which one really has the color right? I don't want to edit my photos to look less saturated in iPhoto only to find out that they're completely washed out everywhere else. I hope you guys know what I mean. Thanks! :D

I just did a quick test, and couldn't really see much of a difference between, photoshop, iphoto and safari. But that said, depending on how well you monitor is calibrated, and if your using colour profiles, there can be a big difference in how an image is displayed. Even if your doing everything perfectly, its highly likely that everyone else isn't. I gave up trying to make my images look the same across multiple machines/programs etc, it was just a huge timewaster with no real solution... unless you can control everything from start to finish that is.

Yeah there's no difference I can see between my Macbook Pro, my friends macbook, my dad's 22" LG and with different software, both on OSX (iPhoto, Photoshop, Pixelmator, Safari) and Windows (Photoshop)...

Oh okay, thanks for your input, guys. I understand what you mean. So is it safe to "depend" on iPhoto's color settings when editing then? I guess I'll just try it out on the other laptop next time.

(Now it's Firefox and GIMP's color versus iPhoto and Safari's... :p)

iphoto the application is fine. the culprit is most likely your monitor. your monitor might be saturating the color, so that what looks normal to you on your screen ends up looking washed out on the internet.

    system preferences, displays, color, calibrate.

apple's built in color calibration utility. windows doesn't come with this, but you can find a comparable app i bet.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I calibrated my monitor, seems to help. Now it's just GIMP that's showing different colors, but I don't mind anymore. Thanks for the advice!
